About Me

I was born in the small town of Raunds on the Northamptonshire/ Cambridgeshire border. Sandwiched between the A1 and M1 my home county is a place many people pass but few pause to take a look. I had an uneventful state education and went on to train as a teacher because the thought of leaving school at 18 and having to work for a living appalled me. So I travelled to South Wales (Monmouthshire) and spent three blissfully idle years becoming a personality moulder and met my wife to be. Teaching was poorly paid and when our first child came along and my wife had to give up her teaching job to look after the new addition I was faced with a stark choice, double my salary or suffer a large drop in income. So I gave up the classroom and joined E.J.Arnold and son, then the biggest supplier of materials and equipment to education. After nine years on the road as a salesman I moved to head office in the dark satanic North. I'm pleased to say it has proved to be neither dark nor satanic here in Leeds and despite various jobs since we have stayed here. We have two children a girl and a boy who have now given us four beautiful grand children (The Fearsome Four) who delight us and run us ragged by turns.

My first book Sprocket and the Great Northern Forest was writen for Sophie, my first grand daughter. The Sprocket Books are based in Batherby Bridge which starts as a rundown backwater of industrial decline but by the second book is the centre of the Five Fells District and The Great Northern Forest. These are books with real northern bite some of which is provided by an English Bull Terrier called Mrs. Mumbly. If you are not familiar with these dogs Google them, and meet the animal world's answer to a main battle tank. I have put up a photograph of me which is the best one I could find as I am camera shy, there is also one of the Fearsome Four (see next to this text) who do their best to keep my wife and I young.

There is a forth Sprocket book (Sprocket and the Heart of the North) in preparation and a follow-up novel to Sea Change (Look to the Stars) which will be a full length book as my first reviewer reckoned Sea Change had at least three books in it. We'll see!

If you read my books please write a review, good or bad, they all help. If you want more information or would like to make closer contact I can be found on facebook so write on my wall or drop me an email at penworkspublishing@gmail.com

As a little further background one of my hobbies has been Public Speaking, which is how I first dipped my toe into writing. Yes there are unbalanced people in this world who enjoy getting up and speaking to an audience, even entering competitions and occasionally winning a few. So if you find yourself faced with having to make a speech and don't know where to turn for help, drop me a line on facebook or an email to penworkspublishing@gmail.com and I will give you a few pointers which I have found useful.

Best Regards

Bryan
